ESPC is Awarded St. Johnsbury Center Route 5 Sidewalk Design
Posted: November 28, 2005 ESPC will complete a planning and feasibility study and preliminary design for a pedestrian and bicycle facility along a portion of U.S. Route 5 in Saint Johnsbury Center.
The project area, being approximately 3,200 linear feet from the Passumpsic Bank to the Green Mountain Mall along the Route 5 corridor, essentially comprises the village center. This area currently experiences a high volume of vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic. However, existing facilities do not provide adequate safety or mobility for pedestrians, in particular children and people with disabilities, driving the need for new and improved facilities such as sidewalks, curbs, crosswalks, and other improvements.
Improved pedestrian and bicycle facilities may also alleviate on-street parking issues, improve access control, and provide the added benefit of promoting traffic calming and enhancing the streetscape in the Village of St. Johnsbury Center
